Blog Log

Tax Deductions from my pay check aren't so bad. I would much prefer that all the money I make stays with me, but aslong as everyone else is getting them taxed as well and it is going to a good cause I'm fine with contributing a little bit. I could deal with the alternative though since I am a fan of providing for myself to great extents. Taxes to provide leisure's and comforts that make lives easier but give an area enough time and people would learn how to operate it the same way if they continued to want those things that taxes bring you.

Week 8 Task 3

Working at my service learning I have learned it is a very easy job that offers experience that could be very useful for future jobs. It is definatly not a job I want to get stuck at for the rest of my life, the life of a grill cook is repetative, at points obnoxious and does not offer the type of money that a good hard worker would be able to make. The people at my placement are all alright people, some of them stressful and not able to handle themselves under pressure and will constantly complain or make complaining about work a major topic in their lives. Others are like me and realize its not worth getting mad over and that its just a job, not a career option, these are the people I usually get along with. I have met many good friends who have given me positive experiences hanging out with them and positive rules and guidance in life, all of which has benefited me in some way. The only real negative aspect of my job is that it does not yet collaborate with my career option and the only problems are little dramatic problems between employees and possibly the restuarant getting a bit to busy than usual.

Week 8 Task 2

There are a number of things that can respond badly for you in a restaruant workplace. Repetitive tasks can eventually lead to strain and sore on muscles and could tense up to a very uncomfortable point, and it is important to make sure you don't stress your body out too much but taking your time. Burns are also a major possibility, almost a daily thing for a regular cook and its something you must get used to and learn how to avoid hot things and try using techniques that lessen the chance of you getting burned. The kitch is also usually a hot enviroment and if you don't hydrate your self and keep your body tempature level then this can result in heat related injuries such as heat sores and strokes.

Week 8 Task 1

There are plenty of work place hazards at the Grill. The back of a kitchen and near a dish pit are almost fatally slipper if not mopped up properly, which is why we have matts covering the floor, but when these matts aren't there while we are cleaning them or something, you can slip and fall in a second and its not just the landing you have to worry about. I've cut myself on the side of some metal lining to the wall while trying to catch myself from a fall, which if it had cut my wrist rather than my finger it could have been very bad. I also have to worry about slipping and falling in the kitchen, since I am next to a boiling hot frier and a hot stove, and everything else in the kitchen is basically hot to the touch and could cause alot of damage given the wrong circumstances.

Week 7 Task 3

I am able to keep my cool in serious situations and remain calm and look at the scene rationally. I can focus on simple tasks and complete things with speed and skill. I have some experience with computers and digital recording which could possibly help me in the recordinng industry. To help me continue towards this goal I can practice recording and mixing different material to experiment with and commit to internships or classes and finding people that can help me gain more knowledge about the industry.

Week 6 Task 3

Time management could help me in a variety of ways since I am the type of person who has trouble getting up in the morning; its takes me about an hour upon waking to be ready to do just about anything besides spacing out. Going to sleep earlier and setting an alarm clock is what really helps me as far as time management so I can get to school on time. I am overwelmed with obligations a good amount of the time and it is pretty hard to get what I want done sometimes because although I would like to do one thing, I often wouldn't mind doing another thing as well.

Week 5 Task 4

The type of work I am doing is easy and good match up to my personality type in a couple areas but is ultimatly not the goal that I am searching for. My job as a grill cook as offered me experience in working with people and making sure things are going as they are needed to accomplish the task, but its all very easy work to me, one of the reasons I don't understand why people stress themselves out at a job like this, so I think I am much better than this job and pursuing a career that involves more of my interest is definatly a challenge.
This week I actually gave away a shift and took friday night off, which was very positive for me, I enjoy nights off. Unfortunatly when I got back to work the next night, apparently the night before had completly bombed and people weren't very happy with the shift switch I had made. I personally don't care and don't see it as my fault partialy for the reason that I think the work is easy and they should have no problem doing it just because I'm not there, and although I was the one who had caused the shift switch, I was doing it to help another employee get some more money, not to just have a night off, so I see no reason to have any guilt about them having a bad night or any reason to blame me, they should have had it together anyways. I look forward to the time when I have more freedom to look for a better job involving my interests a bit more.

Week 4 Task 5

So this week one of our cooks, the one who actually trained me, left this weekend. He's moving onto better things but me and the other cook really liked him and felt we were one of the best teams you could find and we'll really miss him. As of him leaving, meant we had to find a new cook or train a new one. The new guy is a cool dude, but he is so slow and speed is one of the main priorities in the kitchen. Hopefully he will work out, maybe not as a cook since we are actually hoping this other guy is trained to be a cook as well and we think he would work very well.

Week 3 Task 2

Note taking:
1. Review and study notes so I can understand the material more clearly.
2. Read all of the material before the assignment.
3. Rewriting my notes after class.
4. Check with others to see if I have everything.
5. Don't leave out Key Information.

Procrastination:
1.Prioratize the Tasks I do.
2. Make a schedule of what I need to do and Do it.
3. Eliminate Distractions.
4. Find a good place to work.
5. Work on things you don't like first as to do better on what you like later.

Week 3 Task 1

Somethings I could really improve on as far as classwork goes, would involve getting to school on time, I am the worst person when it comes to wake up and usually need an hour or even two hours to actually be prepared enough to comfortably get to class on time. I could fix this by going to sleep earlier I suppose or setting an alarm clock to wake up earlier allowing me time to get ready and wake up more rather than waking up too late and not be able to rush myself to get to school on time, because that alone is impossible. I could also get better at getting started on things. It often takes me a long time to actually get started on something, but once I have, I can usually show that I can finish it no problem. So figuring out a way to motivate myself more towards school work is something I could improve on.

Week 3 Task 3

My first impression of the place was hard to explain. I had absolutly no idea what to expect but the people seemed kind of odd and more like my kind of people then say, walmart or something. I started out as a busser which was fairly easy and the people made it very obvious it is easy work, so my impression of the place was that it was a really cool place that I could see myself getting into. I was soon made a cook and my work involved cooking everything as I was too become the new main late night cook. It wasn't hard once I picked it up, I almost consider it a second hand skill now. I've learned that the work place is a very easy place to get by as far as work goes, its the attitude of yourself and the people around you that make it difficult. People there often try to be tough so sometimes I have to talk people down to calm them down or get them out of my face is they are just trying to cause problems, most people are very reasonable though and I had very few, if any, problems with the other employees. Its all pretty much the same so I don't know what to look forward to in the future, perhaps quitting and getting a better job? or possiby becoming a waiter.

Week 2 Task 3

Task 3:
I. In ten years I see myself owning a music production studio producing others and myself. I want to be living in a small house if single if, dating or married I would plan to have a totally awesome house with the craziest things you can think of. I would have kids if I could stand to go through all that, and I would make enough money to support any fun I want to have and spur of the moment events and ideas. I would tour the world constantly either tagging along with other bands or in something of my own taking advantage of any oppertunity to see the world.

II. Right now I could start learning how all the processes of recording and production goes down. I should gain more knowledge about frequencies and electronic gadgets for music as well as different techniques used to produce different sounds. I would continue going to school and try to take advantage of oppertunities that might get me some type of name on the market or connections with people who could help me pursue into the industry. I would need to save alot of money, possibly ask for loans from family, friends, or a bank. Practice ofcourse, I can't be talented in the production of music if I don't keep my skills up to notch and try to be as influentially creative as possible. After highschool I should try to go to some type of school to help back me up when the time comes that some type of degree will become useful.

III.

Successful Student

Task One: I need to work more on my study habbits, because although I get work done, alot of the information I run through doesn't always stick so I'll only know it for a certain ammount of time. I also need to work on knowing where I want to go and making more decisions that influence my life rather than help someone else out and neglect myself. If I studied more my grades would surely improve and it would also be easier to pass tests at the end of the year since I will have remembered to keep all that information at hand.

Task 2: Could students also know how to have fun. A good student can be really inteligent too, but that can be useless if you don't know how to communicate with the modern day world and have some life of your own. Learn to bend rules to the point its not a problem so the most fun possible can be enjoyed.
